September 29, 2005 - Sixteenth Judicial District Judge John Conery has dismissed Henry T. Porter's lawsuit against the city of New Iberia, clearing the way for the Oct. 15 election to decide who will handle law enforcement for the city.
October 15, 2005 - By a 60 percent to 40 percent margin, New Iberia voters have decided to deny Mayor Hilda Curry the authority to cancel the law enforcement contract with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. The measure failed by a vote of 3,481 to 2,328. A total turnout of 5,801 voters or 29 percent. There are 19,781 registered voters in New Iberia.
