Adopt-A-Bench Commencement

On Thursday, July 20th the City of New Iberia will be hosting an Adopt-A-Bench Commencement at 4:45pm in Bouligny Plaza located on Main Street in beautiful downtown New Iberia. This special occasion is for the bench that was so graciously donated to the City of New Iberia for the City’s help and hard work with the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Just prior to the 2006 National Main Street Conference, which was held in New Orleans last month, the Mayor was informed that because of the City’s charitable work in sheltering the Hurricane Katrina evacuees, the company of D&A Associates has donated the first bench.

Installation of the benches at various downtown locations will accomplish one of the long-time goals of the New Iberia Main Street Program, which has been to incorporate "street furniture" into the downtown area to enable both tourists and locals the opportunity to pause, relax and enjoy the picturesque scenery, breath in the wonderful aromatic smells from Cajun cuisine being prepared in the downtown restaurants, and take a moment to appreciate the historic architecture.
