Household Hazardous Waste Day a Success
The City of New Iberia wishes to sincerely thank all who helped, promoted, supported and participated in the March 11, 2006 Household Hazardous Waste Day. 169 residents of New Iberia brought 19 tons of Household Hazardous Materials to the 5th collection at the New Iberia Public Works Complex. This included 4 tons of paint (latex and oil based), 3 tons of consumer electronics, 2 tons of motor oil, antifreeze and solvents, 1.5 tons of batteries, 6.5 tons of steel, 1 ton of misc., 1ton of plastics and 50 fluorescent bulbs (Mercury).
Approximately 100 volunteers and professionals helped make this event possible. CLECO’s cooking team barbequed and supplied soft drinks for all. Food supply donations were generously provided by Daspit Supermarket, Popeye’s, Super 1 Foods, Legnon’s Boucherie, Wal_Mart, K-Mart, Guidry’s Cake Shoppe, Uncle Barbeque Sauce and Mr. Johnny Romero.
Five gallon containers of useable latex and oil based paint are available to non-profit organizations and needy families. We encourage all who qualify to please call Kim Sheppard or Joe Livingston at the New Iberia Public Works Complex at 369-2391.
Residents are reminded they can drop off motor oil for recycling during business hours at AutoZone, O’Reilly Auto Supply, and Wal-Mart.
The next collection will be Saturday, March 10, 2007, from 9am-2pm at the New Iberia Public Works Complex located at 1303 J. Allen Daigre Street.
