Liaison Officer
Darrel Gros, a 25-year veteran of the Louisiana State Police, Troop I, recently took over as liaison officer for the City of New Iberia and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. His job duties include making sure the terms of the sheriff’s contract with the city are being fulfilled and monitoring crime in the city. Before his career with the Louisiana State Police, Gros spent three years working for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s office and six months with the New Iberia Police Department. Gros spent his last day with the state police on April 14th, 2006, retiring as a lietenant. Just five days later; he began working as the liaison officer for the City of New Iberia. While he’s only been on the job a few weeks, Gros has had two meetings with Sheriff Sid Hebert’s chief deputy, David Landry.
Gros gave his first report to the New Iberia City Council on May 2nd, as part of his job is to give a report at every council meeting. Such open communication and cooperation is important between the City of New Iberia and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department.
