CONTINUOUS TESTING ON A NON-COMPETITIVE BASIS UNTIL THE CURRENT VACANCIES ARE FILLED FOR THE POSITION OF:

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 / $9.56 PER HOUR

A PROMOTION/OPEN LIST WILL BE ESTABLISHED OF ALL APPLICANTS WHO HAVE PASSED THE APPLICABLE EXAMINATION(S).

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

–Operation of a dump truck with air brakes, or sidewinder.

–May occasionally operate other mobile equipment.

–Performs general maintenance duties and participates in work assigned crews of laborers when necessary.

–Uses hand tools as necessary.

–May participate in field surveying using related survey equipment and direct a survey crew.

–May direct the use of heavy digging equipment or placement of pin.

–Assures safe use of equipment and basic maintenance of equipment.

–May perform some paperwork daily.

–Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

–Must be able to lift up to 125 pounds.

–Must be able to perform physically demanding activities including crouching, climbing, bending, walking, sitting, etc.

--Good vision and coordination is required; at least 20/40 in each eye and depth perception of 80 seconds of arc or better. (Equipment involves operating gear shifts, levers, and pedals)

–Must have at least a valid Louisiana driver’s license (Class E) with a CDL permit to take the civil service exam. Must obtain a valid Louisiana CDL license with air brake endorsement (Class A or B) within 45 days of appointment. Applicants with an out of state CDL License must transfer their license to Louisiana within 30 days of employment.

–Must pass the civil service exam, post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.

–Must be a qualified registered voter; verification must accompany application.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 3 / $10.78 PER HOUR

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

–Operation of equipment such as; the backhoe, vac-all, grader, street sweeper with or without air brakes, combination vehicle

–Other equipment may be operated on occasion

–Performs general maintenance activities necessitating the use of hand tools or welding equipment.

–May participate in work assigned to crews of laborers

–May supervise others on projects.

–May be required to keep load records necessary for environmental quality regulations.

–Assures safe use of equipment and basic maintenance of equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

–Must have at least a valid driver’s license. To take the performance test on equipment requiring a CDL License, one must have either a valid Louisiana driver’s license with a CDL permit (Class A or B with air brake endorsement) or a valid CDL license (Class A or B with air brake endorsement).

-Applicants with a valid Louisiana CDL permit must obtain a valid Louisiana CDL license (Class A or B) with pertinent endorsements as issued by the Department of Public Safety, State of Louisiana within 45 days of appointment.

-Applicants with an out of state CDL License must transfer their license to Louisiana within 30 days of employment.

–Must be able to lift up to 125 pounds.

–Must be able to perform a variety of physically demanding activities including crouching, climbing, bending, walking, sitting, etc.

Wastewater Pump Station Mechanic /

$12.12 PER HOUR

A PROMOTION/OPEN LIST WILL BE ESTABLISHED OF ALL APPLICANTS WHO HAVE PASSED THE APPLICABLE EXAMINATION(S).

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

-Performs regular inspections of pumping stations, receives assignments from foreman, or from a maintenance schedule. Inspects stations for timely and effective pumping.

-Diagnoses control, motor or pump problems, with primary emphasis on pumps, less on three phase motors, starters and controls.

-Initiates repairs not requiring an electrical contractor.

-With labor assistance clears area and removes pumps, motors, transports to workshop for re-building and /or repair. With an assistant replaces motors, pumps and assures proper functioning. -Keeps records, makes reports of work done, material used.

-Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

– Department of Health and Hospitals Waste Water Collection Certification at Level II is highly desired for these positions, and Level III is required for promotion to foreman.

-Completion of high school or equivalent, literacy and a valid driver’s license are required, with Commercial Driver’s License desired, as is experience with electrically driven liquid pump systems.

–Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.

–Must be a registered voter / copy of the voter of registration card must accompany the application.

Essential Functions: Normal manual dexterity, strength, as well as mobility, sight, hearing and ability to engage in occasional heavy lifting of up to 125 lbs., descending and ascending ladders, and working in confined spaces are required.

CONSTRUCTION LABORER / $9.56 PER HOUR

-Accompanies machine operator or foreman to site, assists with machine operation, performs moderately skilled labor patching concrete streets, constructing and reconstructing slabs and catch basins.

-May manually complete, dig, backfill drainage projects where larger equipment cannot be used. Spreads soil, sand, limestone, prepares area for paving, patching, seals cracks.

-Puts together forms, assists in installing pipe. Applies, tightens clamps, tests, inspects for leaks, removes shoring, assists in backfilling, slab replacement, site restoration.

-Participates in training, by foremen, equipment operators, to perform more responsible tasks.

-Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

– Heavy lifting up to 125 lbs., climbing, digging and physical agility and exertion is necessary to complete the tasks of positions in this class, as are vision and hearing within normal limits.

–Literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required, prior experience in construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, storm water drainage are desired.

–Must be able to use basic tools.

–Must be able to follow orders.

–Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.

-Participates in training, by foremen, equipment operators, of inexperienced laborers, to perform more responsible tasks and achieve state department of health and hospital certification as required for promotion to more responsible positions.

-Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

– Heavy lifting, climbing, digging and exertion is characteristic of all positions in this class. Ability to lift up to 110 lbs. and working in confined spaces are required.

– Completion of high school or equivalent; submit a copy of the high school verification with application

– Literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required.

JANITOR / $7.25 PER HOUR

A PROMOTION/OPEN LIST WILL BE ESTABLISHED OF ALL APPLICANTS WHO HAVE PASSED THE APPLICABLE EXAMINATION(S).

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

-Positions in this class clean, supply buildings, facilities and restrooms assigned for use by the Parks department.

-Employees of this class may operate machines used in stripping, waxing floors, and perform limited grounds maintenance.

-Generally follows schedule, but may take instructions directly from a foreman or the Assistant Parks Superintendent.

-Cleans floors, windows, replenishes supplies, performs minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs.

-Surveys facilities for maintenance requiring skilled maintenance and informs foreman.

-Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

–Literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required.

–Must be able to follow orders.

–Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.
