New Administration Takes Oath

Standing in the same place her father stood after a quarter-century as mayor, Hilda Curry took the oath of office Monday on the steps of New Iberia City Hall.

Hundreds of residents turned out to watch the swearing in of Curry, Mayor Pro Tem Freddie DeCourt and city council members Therese Segura, Ernest "Pee Wee" Wilson, David Broussard, Rocky Romero, Raymond "Shoe-Do" Lewis and Dan Doerle. Curry became a third generation mayor as she accepted the post once held by her father and grandfather. "Fifteen years ago, my father stood in this same location to bid farewell to the citizens of New Iberia after serving 32 years in public office," Curry said. "I sat proudly and watched with my husband and three children, not realizing that I would walk in my father's footsteps and have the honor and privilege of serving the citizens of New Iberia as your mayor."

Curry vowed to fulfill her campaign slogan of progress through unity. She said she will always make decisions based on what is in the best interests of all citizens
