Building Permits
Building permits, both commercial and residential, are required within The City of New Iberia to erect, modify, remove or repair all structures. This includes everything from new building constructions to fences, fireplaces and signs. Once a complete set of plans for your project is approved by the New Iberia Inspection Department or by the State Fire Marshall's office in regards to commercial projects, a building permit will be issued for the project. Additional permits may be required depending on the nature of the work.
Some tasks that require additional permits include:
A review of sewerage and drainage impact for commercial modifications. The Inspection Department will notify you if a review of this nature is required when you submit your plans for review.
Electrical permits are required for new electrical equipment installation, relocating or modifying existing electrical equipment.
Mechanical permits are required for the addition, replacement, repair or alteration of mechanical systems in structures as well as grease hood systems for commercial projects.
Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work including gas lines, water service, drains, sewage lines and related fixtures and appliances.
Building permits vary in cost and scope according to the type of construction. The basic building permit fee for new construction is $ .11 per square foot for residential and $ .14 per square foot for commercial construction with a minimum amount of $25.00; however, fees may vary due to the type and number of stories of the proposed construction.
