Electrical Permits and Inspections If you are planning a construction project within the City of New Iberia that involves installing new electrical equipment, relocating or modifying existing electrical equipment, contact the New Iberia Inspection Department to learn the required and recommended steps for performing electrical work in the City. You are required to obtain a licensed electrician to perform all electrical work within the City of New Iberia. The electrician must apply for an electrical permit before any electrical work can begin. The cost of an electrical permit is dependent on the nature of the work.
Once electrical work has been completed, the electrician can request an inspection from the Inspection Department. When requesting an inspection, please have the contractor give the the customer name, time, date, and place of inspection. Allow a minimum of eight (8) business hours from time of the request for an electrical inspector to visit your site. After the inspection has been completed, a sticker will be left in a central location on the premises, if no one on site at the time of the inspection. This sticker will indicate the date of inspection and whether or not the work passed.
