Floodplain Building Regulations In addition to the standard building regulations that exist throughout the City of New Iberia, there are other regulations for building in the waterfront areas and flood plains of the City. The purpose of the floodplain regulations is not only to protect buildings from flooding and water damage, but also to preserve the surrounding environment. Homes cannot be built within the waterfront or floodplain region unless the lowest occupied floor is at least one foot above the flood level.
For more information about floodplain construction regulations, stop by the Inspection Department located at 457 E. Main Street, Room 412, between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, or call the department at (337) 369-2354. |
