Real Estate Tax Payments

The Board of Trustees of the City of New Iberia adopts an ad valorem millage for each fiscal year. This rate is a percentage of the property's fair market value as determined by the Iberia Parish Assessor and is collected by the Tax Office of the City of New Iberia in November and December of each year. A penalty of 5% per month and interest at a rate of 1% per month is assessed to owners who do not pay property taxes by December 31st, the due date, of each year. Failure to pay could result in the property being sold at tax sale.

Bills are mailed to the owner's last known address, as maintained by the Iberia Parish Assessor. It is the taxpayer's responsibility to keep the Assessor's Office informed regarding current billing information. Many homeowners pay monthly installments for taxes to their mortgage company, which keeps these monies in an escrow account from which they pay the taxes when due. Tax bills can be mailed to the mortgage companies in these cases.
