Street Construction & Improvements

To better serve the citizens of New Iberia, the New Iberia Public Works Department performs ongoing improvements to city streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters as well as constructing new ones as the need arises. All city streets are on a master schedule to be repaved, resurfaced, or receive other special maintenance as necessary. Streets that experience large amounts of wear may be refinished even sooner.

The department also monitors traffic flow to determine which roads, if any, need widening, additional lanes, new traffic patterns, or other major improvements. These improvements are scheduled on an annual basis according to need and available resources.  If you notice an area of a city street or sidewalk that is in need of improvement, please report it to the Public Works Department. When calling, be prepared with the location and nature of the problem, and with your name and number in case further information is needed.
