Parks & Recreation General Information

The New Iberia Recreation Department operates and maintains parks and recreational facilities all around the City of New Iberia for the enjoyment of its citizens. Over one hundred and ten (110) developed acres are home to various recreational facilities, with everything from playgrounds and pools to trails. The department operates seventeen (17) parks containing athletic fields and courts, picnic shelters, and three (3) miles of hiking and biking trails.

The City of New Iberia parks include:

  • City Park on Parkview Drive
  • Bank Avenue Park
  • West End Park on Field Street
  • Decuir Park on Leroy and Kirk Streets
  • Bacmonila Park on Frederick and St. Jude Streets
  • Louise Street Park
  • Hacker Street Park
  • Dale Street Park
  • Johnston Street Park
  • Bouligny Plaza on Main and Fulton Streets
  • Armentor Park on Parkwood and College Drives
  • Pesson Park on Cherokee Street
  • J. Allen Daigre Park on Santiago Street
  • William Geary "Bunk" Johnson Memorial Plaza on Hopkins Street
  • and Bayou Teche Park on Lewis Street and Old Jeanerette Road

Admittance to the parks is free and open to the public. Major facilities also include the Cyr-Gates Community Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, multipurpose buildings that are home to a majority of the department's programs and activities.

A dedicated staff of seventeen (17) full time employees and many more part time employees help to maintain the facilities and assist citizens of all ages in pursuit of their leisure activities.
