Basketball Program - Youth

The New Iberia Recreation Department sponsors a youth basketball program in the Cyr-Gates Community Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. The league is composed of five (5) age group divisions open to youths age 4 to 17 for boys and 4 to 15 for girls. The divisions are: DIVISION 1: 4 to 7 year olds, DIVISION 2: 8 to 9 year olds, DIVISION 3: 10 to 11 year olds, DIVISION 4: 12 to 14 year olds for boys and 12 to 15 for girls, and DIVISION 5: 15 to 17 year olds for boys. All ages are determined as of December 31st of each year.

Registration for youth basketball is held in October of each year. Fees vary according to the division the participant will play in. Youths participate in a workout to determine placement on teams as determined by the New Iberia Recreation Department Staff. Play usually begins in January and lasts until March. Teams typically play one (1) to two (2) games per week. Practice schedules are scheduled by individual coaches. Games are held at Cyr-Gates Community Center and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.
