City of New Iberia Compliance Ordinances
Ordinance Section 55-1
Violation of minimum property standards, are contrary and inimical to the public health, safety and welfare for the following nonexclusive reasons: abandoned property may attract persons of tender years, who, being so attracted, may play in and about them and be injured in so doing; exposed to the elements, deteriorate and in themselves are unsightly and, deteriorating, becomes more unsightly, promotes blight, and are detrimental to and depreciate the value of the properties in the respective neighborhoods where they are located, and in the city as a whole; and such property invite plundering and vandalism; and such property create fire hazards and attract rodents and insects.
Ordinance Section 94-26
It shall be unlawful for any owner of real estate in the City to permit or allow the growth of noxious weeds or grass or other deleterious, unhealthful or noxious growth measuring more than eighteen (18) inches in height in areas zoned as open land and twelve (12) inches in all other areas in the city.
JunkStreets & Sidewalks
Ordinance Section 55-33 - 55-35
Maintenance of junk is contrary to and inimical to the public health, safety, and welfare for the following nonexclusive reasons: junk, unless properly contained and regulated, creates hazards of fire and disease; and junk, unless properly contained and regulated, may attract persons of tender years, who, being so attracted may play in and about them and be injured in so doing; and junk, unless properly contained and regulated is unsightly and, upon deteriorating, becomes more unsightly, promotes blight; and junk, unless properly contained and regulated, invites plundering and vandalism; and junk, unless properly contained and regulated, attracts rodents and insects; and junk, unless properly contained and regulated, interferes with the free, safe and unobstructed use of the public or private property in the vicinity of its location.
Ordinance Section 6.811
No billboard shall be positioned so as to allow any portion of same to infringe upon any easement or the vertical plane of such easement.
Ordinance Section 74-14
It shall be unlawful to deposit grass, earth, sand or dig up any street without City approval.
Ordinance Section 55-13
The City property standards officer shall post a notice on the windshield of the abandoned vehicle. If the abandoned vehicle is not removed within fifteen (15) days, not to included weekends or legal holidays, the vehicle may be removed on behalf of the City.
Ordinance Section 55-21
For the purpose of this article, "derelict or junk vehicle" means a vehicle which is in any of the following states or conditions: wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled or not lawfully operable on public streets. If a vehicle, on its own power, can start and move forward and backward at least ten (10) feet, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that said vehicle is operable.
Ordinance Section 86-170
Parking of large vehicles in residential districts is prohibited. Any vehicle or trailer having a length which exceeds twenty-two (22) feet is considered a large vehicle. Wreckers of any size are also prohibited from parking on any street in a residential district.
