Emergency Preparedness

Get prepared before a storm approaches:

  • If you are in a mobile home, check your tie downs and evacuate immediately.
  • Make sure all windows are protected with shutters or plywood.
  • Store lightweight outdoor objects which could become airborne in high winds.
  • Make sure you have cash and your car has a full tank of gas, in case you must evacuate.
  • Anchor objects that cannot be brought inside.
  • For drinking, fill food grade containers with water from your tap and place them in the refrigerator.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of prescription medication.
  • Place all valuables and records in waterproof containers, or take them with you.
  • Make arrangements for your pets (animals other than service animals are not allowed in public shelters.)
  • Hurricanes often bring flooding. Prepare your home accordingly.
