Emergency Preparedness
Get prepared before a storm approaches:
- If you are in a mobile home, check your tie downs and evacuate immediately.
- Make sure all windows are protected with shutters or plywood.
- Store lightweight outdoor objects which could become airborne in high winds.
- Make sure you have cash and your car has a full tank of gas, in case you must evacuate.
- Anchor objects that cannot be brought inside.
- For drinking, fill food grade containers with water from your tap and place them in the refrigerator.
- Maintain an adequate supply of prescription medication.
- Place all valuables and records in waterproof containers, or take them with you.
- Make arrangements for your pets (animals other than service animals are not allowed in public shelters.)
- Hurricanes often bring flooding. Prepare your home accordingly.
